Série Noire

In Black Series, Mathilde de l’Ecotais explores the many faces of black: she braids, layers and shapes matte and glossy prints until the original photograph becomes a photographic sculpture.

The glossy prints reach outward, the matte ones fold inward; light models and highlights the reliefs of the prints shaped by Mathilde’s hand.

Inspired by a stay on the Japanese island of Yakushima, this series goes beyond the frame, taking photography into another discipline.
